Joni definitely has a . . . unique character🙃 (how odd for a musician!). So, I say the following in a very endearing sense---there will be a non-stop flow of "No!..you're kidding me!"-type responses to Joni's weekly reported strange happenings, movement akin to the 78rpm speed on a record player, continuous lively conversation after Joni's reporting of her weekly odd events, and a tiny bit of fun-filled confusion all when she just walks into a room (actually, do you know and love even one person like this? Everyone does). But don't let Joni's light-hearted nature fool you, she is a *very serious musician.
She received her MA from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. She co-composed two off-Broadway musicals which ran at the landmark Bleecker Street Cinema in Greenwich Village, NYC, and resulted in her receiving prestigious awards. Presentation was made at the famed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in midtown Manhattan, an experience replete with due acknowledgement and the appropriate fanfare. 'A big deal', so to speak.
She was also a member of the 'house band' performing country music for an extended period at 'Hill Country' in Manhattan. With that same band, was asked and did perform at the 'opening' party (held at the legendary Roseland) for a Broadway play "Hands on a Hard Body", whose music was written by Trey Anastasio of the group PHISH. With her own band, she fulfilled city contracts, such as performing at the NYC Marathon Party, in addition to being part of Harley Davidson of NY, playing for many years at the multitude of their events . . .etc., etc.
When Joni walks into a recording studio, you know you're going to get something special. With such a diverse musical background, all genres are covered, but one I personally enjoy from Joni is her honky-tonk piano. That and other musical styles are displayed similarly by Joni on more recorded future to-be-released tracks by THE AMERICAN RELICS. And one more thing...Joni, like Josh, also once mentioned something to me that had a telling quality to it, something that I specifically remember. That for her, it wasn't about making money from music, or the lure of fame, that has been the most satisfactory element, or in turn, her greatest attraction to playing music. It has always been about getting the opportunity to play with fine musicians and experience the enjoyment of creating something that she can be part of, and she can be proud of. So...that said, listen on our Relics Music page to a recording of an original composition of Joni's called 'Let's Get Lost' in which she displays that previously mentioned, fun, dancehall, honky-tonk piano style, and also, how nicely she puts across the lead vocal.
I can say...Joni is a great 'go-to' for any professional band.
