My sister introduced me to Josh, who she met at a party at CBGB's in NYC. It was a sort of 'Reunion' party of the old CBGB, Max's Kansas City crowd...(a future release of THE AMERICAN RELICS' song 'Belle of the Ball' is an era-bridging fantasy tune based on the iconic Max's Kansas City). Upon meeting Josh, who is quite a young man, I immediately recognized that he was an avid historian of classic rock and 60s pop music, which translated into similar tastes that I had with regard to recording and producing music.
A knowledgeable engineer and music producer way beyond his chronological years, Josh and I have worked together in his studio in Brooklyn (Salant Sound Recording Studios) to create some yet-to-be-released, interesting, retro-inspired tracks. He is also the drummer on those tracks completed at his studio, and has, separately, played with several local acts throughout NYC, in addition to touring the East Coast, West Coast, Midwest and Canada.
The beauty of working with Josh as a sound engineer, is that, again, although still a young man, he has the ear to understand what you are trying to accomplish in the recording studio, in any genre. And to repeat, that is due to his vast knowledge of and appreciation for the many different musical eras, and different musical genres within. It all just seems to come naturally to him. Also, Josh once said to me in the studio that one of the most important factors of recording is positivity in your goals and a positive atmosphere You can be assured of that in the company of Josh Salant....below is a YouTube video of a separate project of Josh's in which he is playing drums on an original retro-inspired track titled THAT'S JUST ROCK-N-ROLL.
