Multi instrumentalist Nelson Montana has spanned the musical gamut which includes producing, arranging, teaching and performing on both stage and in the studio in a variety of musical genres. He's been written up in BassPlayer magazine, Modern Drummer magazine as well as several online music sites and was voted one of the "Top 10 Best Bass Players on YouTube " in 2018.
Nelson has worked as bandleader and as a sideman for such notable artists as Grammy Award Winner Nile Rodgers (Daft Punk), Billboard Dance chart topper Kim Sozzi, Jazz greats Tal Farlow, Dave Kikoski (Roy Haynes, Randy Brecker) Alex Norris (Vanguard Big Band, Stevie Winwood, Ron Carter), Blues and Rock and Roll legends Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry and The Drifters, plus Broadway giants Ben Vereen, Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and Daniel Weiss (Rent, Hair, ). He played bass in the Broadway Production of "MamaMia" and appears on the tribute album"Shawn Lane Remembered." He’s also worked exclusively with Platinum Record Artist Roger Barlett of the Jimmy Buffett Coral Reef Band, as well as session master Joe Caro (Miles Davis, Michael McDonald), famed folk artist David Ippolito, Vince Martell of The Vanilla Fudge, Jon Herrington of Steely Dan, plus many more of New York's finest musicians.
Nelson is featured in the book “From the Record” where he comments on various aspects of the music industry throughout
the years.
He currently accepts recording clients working from his home studio in New York City. As Nelson puts it: “I love working with creative people and helping to bring their artistic vision to life –whatever it may be – in any way I can.”
